Egg: When collected, this egg had a fine scattering of yellow pigment down the embryo's belly, which, together with the dark pigment on the oil globule (A; A1), separated the egg from that of EIIIA6, where the yellow pigment is arranged in more discrete groups. The egg was also slightly larger than the average EIIIA6.

Larva: The chromatophore pattern of the 3-day larva is clearly shown in C and C1.

The COI barcode of this egg and hatched larva (A & C above), collected in the offshore sample of 16 February 2014, has matched the sequences of 3 adult Elagatis bipinnulata in BOLD.
